Full day in the south of Mauritius

The day begins with a visit to Trou aux Cerfs, the extinct volcano with a well-defined crater. It is located in Floréal at around 605m in height. The crater is described as 350 meters in diameter and 80 meters deep. It is believed that the last eruption took place around 600,000 years ago.

The tour continues to the sacred lake also known as Grand Bassin. It is a crater lake located in a remote mountainous region in the Savane region, in the heart of Mauritius. It is around 1800 feet above sea level. The Ganga Talao is considered the holiest Hindu place in Mauritius. Several deities in the form of statues are placed around the lake and inside the temples.

Then head to Black River Gorges, a national park located further south of the island. It is one of the largest protected forests in Mauritius. The Black River Gorges is a peaceful corner, surrounded by trees, rivers and waterfalls. This spectacular place on the island offers you a panoramic view with magnificent landscapes of the mountains and the ocean.

Around noon you will be in the heart of the plain of Chamarel, there is the rum distillery of Chamarel. Overlooking the road leading to the Seven Colored Earths bordered by fields of pineapple, sugar cane and tropical fruits, the rum distillery offers a guided tour and tastings of agricultural rums distilled on site.

The visit continues to the Salty River Waterfall which is the highest waterfall in Mauritius. This 83m high natural beauty falls against a picturesque backdrop of forests and mountains. The view offered is fantastic.

The day ends with the visit to the earth of colors. The earth of seven colors is a phenomenon resulting from the variations of colors due to the cooling of molten rock. The lava formations are estimated to be 3.5 to 7 million years old.
